James "Jim" Rabun Abbott passed away peacefully at home on October 13, 2025, at the age of 90. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Bessie Abbott. He is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 65 years, Rachel Glenn Abbott; and his two daughters, Karen (Scott) Hensley and Sharon Wills. He had five grandchildren he loved dearly: Owen (Jenni Lee) Hensley, Hunter Wills, Austin (Josie) Hensley, Cooper (Madison) Wills and Marin Wills.

Born July 8, 1935, in Frankewing, Tennessee, he graduated from Boones Hill High School. The fall after graduating he moved to Nashville and a few years later met Rachel.

He was known and respected for his strong work ethic. He was employed by AVCO/Textron, building airplane wings and a section of the first space shuttle. He worked there for over 39 years before retiring in 1992. In retirement he spent countless hours mowing yards all over his neighborhood and beyond and spending numerous days at Carroll and Sons' gas station enjoying the friendships he established there.

Rabun enjoyed being outside, smoking his pipe, taking vacations to Gatlinburg and Gulf Shores, going to the farm with his brother Bob, and cheering on the Tennessee Vols. What he will most be remembered for is never meeting a stranger. He had a way of speaking to everyone he encountered.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Woodbine Funeral Home, Hickory Chapel. A graveside service will be on Saturday, October 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
