James Agius Obituary

James Louis Agius, Jr.
March 28, 1948 - October 11, 2023
Well known Petaluma businessman and member of the pioneer Agius family passed away at his home in Santa Rosa, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Petaluma, James attended St. Vincent schools and graduated from Petaluma High School in 1966. He was in the antique business for a number of years, prior to opening the Petaluma Market in 1987.

James is survived by his wife, Maureen Agius, his daughter Jamie A. Smith, and son, James L. Agius III, and was preceded in death by his son Dominic C. Agius in 2011.

Grandfather of Emma Smith and Owen Smith.

He was the son of the late James L. and Estelle "Topsy" Agius. Brother of Cynthia Agius Reynolds. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins, and his beloved "Petaluma Market Family".

Jimmy, as his sister called him, took care of so many people in so many unnoticed ways. He was always there when people needed him.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, October 17, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory, Petaluma. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Entombment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, Petaluma. The family prefer memorials be made to the Phoenix Theatre, PO Box 2160, Petaluma, CA 94953.

Jimmy was in our 1966 class at Petaluma High. Jimmy and Donnie Lombardi were best friends. Their was never a dull moment when they were around. Jimmy was very smart and became a very successful business man. I miss seeing him at the market but grateful for his friendship.

Sorry to see you go so soon, Jimmy. You were a caring, thoughtful husband, father, friend, and good human, a vanishing breed these days. Love to your family and may they always carry the best thoughts of you and your life.
Respectfully,

Hi Maureen and Jim, I am so sorry for your loss. I'm not sure there are words of comfort to utter. I would say them, if I knew them. Hold onto each other. My love comes with this note.

I will never forget the kindness and generosity of the entire Agius family when Joe died.
