James “Jim” Burl Bailey, 70, of Robinson, IL, passed away on October 24, 2025.
Jim was born on August 30, 1955, in Robinson, IL, to Burl and Mary (Holt) Bailey. He grew up here in Robinson, where he learned early the value of hard work, loyalty, and keeping life simple. He graduated from Robinson High School with the Class of 1973 and went on to build a steady and dedicated career at Marathon Petroleum, where he worked for many years. After retiring, Jim found joy in starting his own lawn care service. There was something about a freshly cut yard—order, care, and pride—that reflected the way he approached life. His own lawn was his masterpiece.
On November 25, 1978, Jim married Betty (Pope), and together they shared more than three decades of love and partnership until her passing in 2011. He was also preceded in death by his parents and by his brother, Tom Bailey.
He is survived by his daughter, Amanda Bailey; by his brother, Robert Bailey; by his sister and brother-in-law, Joyce & Joel Cole; and by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Jim loved the outdoors, and it showed in the way he lived. Whether he was tending to his garden, camping with friends, or spending quiet evenings in his yard, he felt most himself under open skies. He enjoyed traveling—especially to the National Parks—and he spent his winters in Arizona with his camper, exploring new places and taking life at a slower pace. His dogs were right there beside him, partners in every season.
Jim lived a life that didn’t need to be loud to be full. He found meaning in the everyday: in the work of his hands, the care of his home, the beauty of nature, and the kindness of shared company.
A family guided celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 1st, from 12:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. at Jim’s home (6764 N 1340th St, Robinson, IL). Family and friends are invited to bring a plate of food, share stories, and spend time together in the place he loved most.
