Today we say goodbye to our dad — a man who truly lived life his own way and found happiness in the things that meant the most to him. James Baker of Brook Park passed away Friday, February 20, 2026 at the age of 85.
James Ralph Baker was born January 19, 1941 to Harry and Irene (Sams) Baker in Duluth, Minnesota.
He loved being outdoors, whether he was hunting, searching for agates, or simply enjoying the quiet that came with nature. He could spend hours reading or going through his coin collection, always curious and always appreciating the stories behind the little treasures he found. And if there was a casino nearby, chances were good he was there smiling, enjoying the excitement and having a little fun.
More than anything, he loved his dog Max, his constant companion and loyal friend.
He appreciated simple pleasures, good stories, loyal companionship, and living life on his own terms.
We will miss his humor, his stubborn streak, and his stories.
Rest easy, Dad.
James is survived by his children Tina Cornelison of Texas, James Baker, Jr. of Brook Park, Tony (Staci) Baker of Pennsylvania, Debbie Baker of Stillwater, Loretta (Greg) Heaton of Florida; his grandchildren; brother Ray (Robin) Baker of Zimmerman; nieces and nephews; aunt Helen Shersen of St. Paul; other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Irene Baker; wife Edna Baker; and brother Paul Baker.
The family will be arranging a private celebration for James.
