"Jim," was born at home in Big Springs, TN, along with his twin sister, Jean Barger Dixon, who proceeded him in going to their heavenly home in 2020. He was born to Viola and Carson Barger on April 16, 1928.
Jim was a unique person, as in making friends everywhere he went. His family moved from the," country," to Chattanooga, where he attended school. He graduated from Central High School in Chattanooga. He was a great athlete, being team captain on the basketball team.
After a short stint in WWII, he came back to Chattanooga and went to University of Tennessee in Chattanooga. There he met and married the beautiful Dorothy Ann Kistler in 1953. Shortly after being at UTC, he was hired by Wm. Wrigley Chewing Gum Company, where he stayed for 43 years before retiring.
From Chattanooga, where Jim's children, Jim and Jayne, were born, Wrigley sent Jim to Charlotte, NC, then to Dallas, TX. Jim sold like chewing gum like nobody's business and also cared for his employees under him. He would always ask how their family was, their parents, etc., prior to getting into any business talk. Jim was then promoted again and moved to the Southeast Headquarters in Flowery Branch, Ga. He and Dot bought a house in Alpharetta, an Atlanta suburb. He resided there for 46 years. Wherever Jim lived, he always had people he cared for. He was with a friend in Dallas that was on weekly dialysis. When in Atlanta, his golf pro was paralyzed in a fall, and Jim spent time with him whenever he could. He made friends wherever he went!
Jim and Dot loved golf, tennis, and travel, their family and Jesus. They both served faithfully at Dunwoody Baptist Church and at the churches' Fitness Center for 46 years! Jim would bring a smile to anyone who walked through the doors at the Fitness Center! He always had a joke for any occasion!
The Lord took Jim's, "Dot," home in 2018. He loved her with all his heart. They had been married 66 years prior to her passing. He missed her every day since.
Jim leaves behind two children, James (Gia) Barger, and Jayne (Paul) Huber. Jim had 15 grandchildren: Bess, Sarah, Ben, Susanna, Skylar, Jennifer, Josh, Esme, Sylvie, Eli, Cael, John, Cole, Casey and Sam. Also, 17 great grandchildren: Evie, River, Fox, Zinnia, Forest, Beatrice, Titus, Able, Silas, Erica, Iris, Blythe, Josephine, Audrey, Estelle, Charlie and Aiden. And his faithful dog, Wendy.
What a legacy he and Dot started many years ago!
A Celebration of Jim's life will be conducted on Sunday, the 7th of January, 2024 at two o'clock at Crowell Brothers Peachtree Chapel. A private entombment will follow at Peachtree Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.
On-line condolences may be expressed at www.crowellbrothers.com. Arrangements entrusted to Crowell Brothers Funeral Homes & Crematory, 5051 Peachtree Industrial Boulevard, Peachtree Corners, GA 30092. 770-448-5757.

What a fellow Jim was! He always brought a smile and was a good natured guy to be around. He is missed by all who knew him. Loved always!

I first met Mr. Jim when I started walking in the neighborhood. He walked miles everyday. We both had a connection to Texas and enjoyed talking about it. He had a wonderful sense of humor. When I saw him wearing a mask in the grocery store during the pandemic, he told me he normally only wore masks to rob banks. I miss seeing Mr. Jim out walking his dog Wendy.
