James Worthington Barnes of Goochland County, Virginia.
James (also known as Jimmy or many other nicknames) left this world unexpectedly on July 17, 2023 in a car accident on his way back to White Stone, VA at the age of 72 (one day shy of 73). Jimmy was adopted as a baby by Worth & Edith Barnes. He was raised in Goochland County. He served two years in the Army National Guard in the 1970s. Jimmy’s first job was at the Virginia State Farm and he worked there for 5+ years. Following that he worked many years in Goochland for Browning Construction until he retired and began doing what he loved most, and that was to be on the water sitting on the dock at the bay. For about 10 years Jimmy had enjoyed living in retirement at the bay during the summer months by helping his friends and neighbors by repairing their boats, helping with lawn care, and anything else they needed. He enjoyed the simple and slow life at Robbins Boat Yard in White Stone.
Jimmy and his wife, Anita married on June 6, 1981. They just celebrated 42 years of marriage. They created many memories together and raised a beautiful family who all loved being at a campground on the water during the summers and going for boat rides. They’ve had many adventures together over the last almost 50 years. He was a great father to Justin and Ashley. He was always there to teach them fun outdoor activities such as riding go karts, four wheelers, fishing, and hunting. Jimmy was an amazing grandfather to his four grandchildren. He always lit up when they came to visit and always offered golf cart rides. He would share little bit of wisdom each visit.
He was preceded in death by his parents Worth & Edith Barnes. He is survived by his wife, Anita Barnes; his children, J.W. Barnes Jr., Justin Barnes and Ashley Duke (Solomon); his grandchildren, Gracie, Landon, Logan, and Eli Duke.
A Memorial Service & Fellowship Meal is scheduled for this Sunday, July 23, 2023 at 3:00pm at Smyrna Baptist Church 1470 Rock Castel Road, Goochland, Virginia. Everyone is welcome. In lieu of flowers please send potted plants or even seeds or bulbs and Anita will plant them in his memory in one of her gardens.

My prayers for his family very much. He always made me laugh when he would come into the pharmacy. I got to see Jimmy on the day he passed he came to the pharmacy and we all laughed and had a great time. He will be surely missed by many people. The Monday he came in he was talking about all the birthdays that were coming up in July. We all wished him an early happy birthday. Going to miss our good friend Jimmy
