On August 18, 2024, James John Barry Jr., 69, of Staten Island, NY, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones.
James was born in Brooklyn on July 17, 1955, to James and Philomena Barry. James, a resident of Staten Island, lived in New Springville with his wife, Maryann Barry. They enjoyed trips down to the Jersey Shore, a memorable trip to Graceland, and countless nights on Broadway. Before meeting his wife, Maryann, James raised his sons, James John Barry III and Jason Barry with Shanta Barry in Huguenot.
James worked in banking for over 40 years for EAB & Citi Bank in Manhattan, NY. He also devoted 23 years to the St. James Theatre as the lead usher. James was well known for loving Broadway and instituting The Stoop on West 44th Street.
His magnetic personality and infectious enthusiasm
for theater and show business drew many to join him on the stoop creating cherished memories with friends and loved ones.
He will be greatly missed by his devoted wife, Maryann Barry, which he lovingly nicknamed Dimples.
He is survived by his sister, Rosemary Dudak of Tamarac, FL, his son James John Barry III & his wife Tara of Morganville, NJ Jason Barry of Freehold, NJ & his fiance Erin O Hagan. James is also survived by his three adoring grandchildren Ava, Natalie & James, and many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever carry his spirit in their hearts.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at John Vincent Scalia Home for Funerals, Inc., 28 Eltingville Blvd, Staten Island, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, August 22, at 11:00 at St. Clare s Roman Catholic Church located at 110 Nelson Avenue, Staten Island, New York 10308.
