James "Jim" Edward Baskin, Jr. passed away peacefully on July 14, 2024 at the age of 72, six years after a Lewy Body Dementia diagnosis. Jim was a man of many friends and a kind heart. His loving and generous spirit will be truly missed by all who loved him.
Jim was born in San Antonio, TX to the late James Sr. and Frances May Baskin on January 17, 1952. He grew up in Houston, graduating from St. Thomas High School in 1970. He then joined the US Army, and was stationed in northern California for 2 years. Jim came back to Texas where he eventually moved to Austin in the mid-70s. He worked for many years in the workers' compensation insurance field all over the state of Texas.
Jim met Helen Evans in October of 1978 at a Halloween party and were inseparable ever since. The couple married in the fall 1979 and treasured almost 45 years of wedded bliss. Jim was always willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was incredibly kind and loving to all. His greatest pride was in his children: his son, Dean, and his daughter, Andi. Jim loved his family deeply and when grandchildren came into his life, he became the best Papa/Grandpa imaginable.
Jim's legacy will live on through the memories he leaves behind. He is survived by his devoted wife, Helen Evans Baskin; son, Dean Baskin (wife, Anne Shiu) of College Station, TX; and daughter, Andrea Snyder (husband, Matthew) of Liberty Hill, TX; and by granddaughters Clara, Alice, Chloe, Elizabeth, and Catherine. Jim is also survived by his brothers, Mike (wife, Chris) and Tom and an extended family of many cousins, nephews, nieces, and their loving families.
A celebration of James' life will be held on Saturday, August 3 at 2:00pm at Beck Funeral Homes at 1700 E. Whitestone Blvd. Cedar Park, TX 78613.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to Central Texas Food Bank.
