James R. Bates Jr., a proud Georgia Tech alumnus and beloved family man, passed away on April 11, 2025, at the age of 89. Born on January 18, 1936, in Meridian, Mississippi, James lived a life rich in experience, wisdom, and love.
He graduated in 1958 from the Georgia Institute of Technology, where he cultivated not only his academic foundations but also lifelong friendships and unforgettable memories. His time at Georgia Tech marked the beginning of a journey filled with achievements and contributions to his field, embodying the spirit of perseverance and dedication.
James's legacy is carried on by his loving wife, along with his three sons, one stepson and three grandsons and many friends, who will forever cherish the moments spent with him. His nurturing presence and unwavering support have significantly shaped their lives, and they remember him as a guiding light and a pillar of strength.
James is predeceased by his parents and a stepson, their memories remain a cherished part of his life story. The family takes comfort in knowing that these relationships, filled with love and connection, will be celebrated privately among those he leaves behind.
