James Currin Bergin, affectionately known as Jerry to his friends and associates, and as "Red" or "Granddad" to many family members, was born on December 28, 1928, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was the second son of Hugh Joseph and Louise Virginia Bergin. He peacefully departed this life on April 15, 2025, in Oklahoma City, leaving behind a legacy that touched many hearts. Loved by all who knew him, Jerry's presence will be deeply missed and cherished by his family and friends.

Jerry grew up with his three brothers during the Great Depression and lived in a number of different locations in West Texas, to Alabama, Indiana, and Illinois. Those 4 brothers, Tom, Pete, Martin and Jerry had some great tales to tell and all are greatly missed

Like so many of our veterans of World War II, Jerry quickly volunteered for the United States Army on January 4, 1946 only 7 days after his 17th birthday. He was a recipient of the World War II Victory Medal. His service to his country exemplified the values he carried throughout his life.

In 1949, Jerry married Joyce Ann Carter. They had two sons together, Mike and Pat Bergin. Later, in 1996 Jerry married his second wife, Mary Alice Bates and they enjoyed 18 years of marriage before her death in 2014.

Jerry began his career in 1948 with Republic Supply Company, an oil and gas equipment supplier, where he initially worked as a local store employee. During his time with Republic Supply he made his home in Midland, TX, Houston, TX, Wichita, KS and Lafayette, LA before coming to Oklahoma City in 1960.  His dedication and tireless efforts led him to be promoted to President and CEO in 1980, a role he embraced until 1988. Following this chapter, he opened Phoenix Supply as an independent supplier of oil and gas equipment, continuing his passion for the industry until his retirement in 1999.

Jerry became a man of deep Christian faith, while attending Bible Study Fellowship (BSF) in Oklahoma City from 1998 through 2015. His experience in BSF helped him learn to love God’s word and deepened his commitment as a Christian believer. Through his faith, he found trust in God's "presence" in his life now and in eternity. His family takes comfort in knowing he has gone to his eternal home in heaven, and they hold onto the promise that they will see him again.

Jerry had a zest for life, enjoying hobbies such as hunting and fishing, which brought him much joy and connection to nature. His love for family was paramount, and he is survived by his son Mike and daughter-in-law Betsy Bergin, as well as his daughter-in-law Pam Bergin. He took great pride in his grandchildren: Jennifer Kerr (husband Sam), Jason Bergin (wife Lindsay), Jerry Bergin (wife Ali), Laura Gray (husband Terry), and Michael Bergin (wife Morgan). Additionally, he was a delighted great-grandfather to Ayden and Beckham Kerr, Haylee and Currin Bergin, Sierra Jauss, Pierce Burleson and Eli Bergin, Carys and Brody Gray, and Brooks, Nash, and Nora Bergin. Jerry was also the proud great-great-grandfather of Josiah Jauss.

Jerry was preceded in death by his son Pat Bergin, who is remembered with great love and affection. Jerry spoke often of how much he missed his son who was taken from us much too soon.
