Jim’s life began on April 23, 1942, in Herington, Kansas. He was the son of Joseph Alvin and Frances Ann (Glenn) Biehler. Jim was a 1960 graduate of Herington High School where he played Basketball his team was very successful his Sr year going 12-2. He was united in marriage to Metta Rae Stegeman on June 30, 1963, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Tampa, Kansas. Jim Started working at Tri-County Sales Inc. John Deere,Herington as a young 15-18 year old mechanic & the knowledge he learned on the Farm & self teaching, soon became a well known John Deere Equipment Mechanic & was called by Farmers from all around the state to repair their equipment! He then went to work with the Rock Island Railroad as a Mechanic in the old roundhouse, he even designed a whole new circuit board for the old motor cars they use to run up & down the tracks! Also during this time he and his best friend Warren Weber, with friends built a Race Car together & in a few years it became a winner at many tracks, with Jim winning Mechanic of The year honors in 1975 at Salt Hawk Speedway Hutchinson Ks & 1976 at Salina Speedway! Also their car finished 2nd in The Nationals in both those years at the Hutch fairgrounds! When The Rock Island sold out, He & Warren Weber opened The Napa Store & had a shop where they worked on everything from motorcycles, vehicles, large trucks, tractors & Combine,etc. after selling their business Jim went to work for Marion county John Deere as their service Manager & then a few years later went into sales, when John Deers sold out to Prairie Land Partners Jim joined forces with his Brothers Larry & Kenny & with all them being very well known in the farming industry, they started working on any and all types of farming equipment, plus taking care of the family farm work! The 3 brothers loved being together on a daily basis! Jim finally retired at 80 years old! He was an excellent mechanic and serviced just about every piece of John Deere machinery in the region!
Jim picked up the game of golf at 55 years old, he was an avid golfer and never passed up a chance to hit the ball. He really enjoyed playing in tournaments with Friends & Family! Especially the Knights of Columbus Tournament! He was a faithful parishioner of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 1066 in Herington. Family was the center of Jim’s life and he is survived by his wife of 62 years, Metta Rae Biehler of Herington; sons Jeff ( Karen) Biehler of Herington, Ron ( Cindy) Biehler of Herington, Doug Biehler of Herington and Matt ( Melissa) Biehler of Goddard; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild on the way; his siblings Patricia Riffel of El Dorado, Kenny(Kathryn) Biehler of Herington, Larry ( Susie) Biehler of Herington, Jolene (Gene) Ohlman of Emporia and Mary ( Alan) Stuart of Herington and several nieces and nephews. Jim passed away on Wednesday December 25, 2025, at St. Lukes Hospital in Marion. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Donald Biehler, and grandson Aaron Biehler. His family will gather with friends on Tuesday December 30, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at Yazel Megli Funeral Home, Herington where a Rosary service will begin at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday December 31, 2025, at 10 a.m. at St John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Herington led by Father George Chalbhagam. He will be laid to rest in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Herington. Memorial contributions in Jim’s name may be directed to Metta Rae Biehler for Good Shepherd Hospice & Masses to St. John the Evangelist Church.
