James "Jay" Blackmon, of Gloucester, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 25, 2025, surrounded by loved ones at his home, at the age of 63. Jay was born on August 21, 1962, to the late James Jack and Jo Ann Thomas Blackmon. Jay was a diligent worker and thoroughly enjoyed his role as Vice President of Carmine Builders. Especially, creating home designs. In his free time, he loved going fishing or unwinding while watching The Waltons on TV. He was a kind man who thought of others. During bad winter weather, he would always volunteer to take hospital employees to work. However, most of all, he loved being a dad, a grandfather, and a great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine Blackmon, and their children: Bill Skay (Brittney), Shawn Skay (Sara), and Corey Skay (Victoria). He was a wonderful "Papa J" to their grandchildren, Lillian Skay, Laci Austin, Kameron Cook, Corey Skay, Gavin Skay, Harper Elaine, Carson James, and their great-grandson, Hunter. He is also survived by his brother, Jack Kimmel (Tina), brother-in-law Mike Bardle (Jackie), sister-in-law Donna Dorian (Ken), and a host of nieces and nephews. A celebration of life service, officiated by Pastor Arthur Wolz, will be held at Hogg Funeral Home on Saturday, September 6, 2025, at 11:00 am. The inurnment is private. In memory of Jay, memorial contributions may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association Virginia Chapter at APDA Virginia Chapter, PO Box 4162, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
