James Matthew Boggs, 75, of Bledsoe, passed away Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
Matt spent much of his adult life using his faith to spread comfort to all who knew him. He touched many lives through his calling to pray for the sick and all those in need. He was well known for visiting patients at Harlan Appalachian Regional Hospital and praying with them.
A U.S. Army veteran, Matt served during the Vietnam War and later helped pay tribute to fellow veterans as a member of the VFW Honor Guard. He worked operating heavy machinery throughout his career and was proud of his skill as a dozer operator. Matt loved the outdoors and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time in his beloved mountains. He was a member of Pine Mountain Church of God.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Etta Bell (Huff) Boggs and a Son, James Steven Boggs.
He is survived by his Wife of 54 years, Mary Joanne Boggs; His Daughter, Terri Elizabeth Boggs DeAtley (John); Son, Jerry Boggs (Barbara); Grandson, Morgan DeAtley; Sister, Kay Moore (Annamalai); Brother, Mike Boggs; Nephew, Wesley Boggs (Christie), along with a trove of beloved aunts, uncles and cousins.
Matt will be laid to rest Friday, February 13, 2026. Visitation and services will be held at Mount Pleasant Funeral Home, Harlan, Kentucky, from 12PM to 3PM with funeral services beginning at 3PM. Burial to follow at Creech Cemetery, Bigelow Road, Bledsoe with the Harlan Honor Guard performing Military Rites.
