James Brooks Obituary
Jim was born on November 18, 1933, in Raleigh, N.C., where he spent his childhood and formed lifelong friendships. He graduated from Hugh Morson High School in 1952 and went on to earn an associate's degree from Campbell College where he played basketball and met his wife, Barbara. His professional career led him into entrepreneurship. Jim owned and operated Carriage House Cleaners in Garner, N.C for 28 years before retiring in 1998.
Jim's greatest joy in life was his family. He married his high school sweetheart, Barbara in 1954 and they shared 70 years together. He was a devoted father and grandfather and loved spending time with his family. Jim was a member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church and truly enjoyed the friendships he made with the men of the Sunday School Class. Their Wednesday lunches were something he looked forward to each week.
Jim loved traveling and being outdoors working in the yard or fishing on his boat. Jim's happy place was Atlantic Beach, N.C., where he had a cottage and lots of fishing buddies through the years.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Cadence Garner who cared so much for Jim during his time there.
Jim's family will receive friends for a period of visitation on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd., Garner, North Carolina 27529. The family will celebrate Jim's life at a private memorial on Atlantic Beach, where at his request his ashes will be scattered.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Able to Serve or Garner Area Ministries.
