BROWN, James Edward, age 72, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed away late Thursday evening, June 8, 2023, at Kettering Medical Center, in Kettering, Ohio. He was born on Wednesday, April 25, 1951, in Sylacauga, Alabama to Daniel & Estelle (née Marbury) Brown; James was a vibrant and intelligent man who brought joy and laughter to all who knew him.
James was the beloved husband of Karol V. Brown and a devoted father to his two daughters, the late Adia (Jason) Maass, and Atiara (Moussa) Gordon, and son, Ariessunna (Natalie) Brown. He was also a proud grandfather to four grandsons, Aurmahn Sears, Nathaniel Brown, Moussa James Gordon, Jaimeson Brown, and one granddaughter, Aviana Brown. James was preceded in death by both parents, as well as two brothers, William (Joe) and Anthony (Lane).
He is survived by his brothers, Danny, Kenny, and Jerry, sister Nina (Cliff) Still, mother-in-law Frances Moore, sister-in-law Joyce (David) Barnes, brothers-in-law John (Betty) Moss, and niece Teri (Eric) Barker, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
James attended Roosevelt High School in Dayton, the University of Cincinnati, Dayton Art Institute, Dayton Barber School, and Cosmetology School, where he honed his skills in a variety of fields. His work history included barbering and cosmetology, selling insurance and retail salesman, and was active in numerous associations with professional organizations.
A man of many talents, James was passionate about fishkeeping, animals (pets and in the wild), and gardening. He loved learning new words and interesting facts, which he eagerly shared with others. His love for all kinds of music and his talent as a singer brought joy to those around him. James was known for his quick wit, and his ability to make others laugh with his clever jokes and funny stories.
James will be remembered as an intelligent, creative, and funny man who had an immense impact on the lives of those who knew him. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends, who will forever cherish the time they spent together.
May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and laughter he brought to this world.
Family will welcome friends for visitation calling hours on Tuesday, June 20th, 2023, from 11AM until the time of the funeral service at 12PM, at Schlientz and Moore Funeral Home – 1632 Wayne Avenue – Dayton, Ohio – 45410.
Burial will immediately follow at West Memory Gardens, in Moraine, Ohio.
