James Hubert Brown

Of Waltham, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 4, 2025, at Care One of Concord, following a period of declining health. He was 92 years old.

Born on November 6, 1933, in Boston, Jim was the son of the late Guy Brown and Mary E. (Scullin) Brown. He was raised in the Boston area and lived in Cambridge, Lowell, and Newton before settling in Waltham in 1970, where he made it his home for more than five decades.

Jim was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge Vocational High School. As a young man, he spent many hours at the Cambridge YMCA, where he worked as a swimming and gymnastics instructor. He proudly served in the United States Air Force from 1953 to 1957, with assignments in New Mexico, Guam, and England.

Jim dedicated over 25 years of his professional life to the Polaroid Corporation in Waltham. He was known as a hard-working and dependable colleague and spent much of his career working nights as a chemical processor.

After retiring from Polaroid, Jim assisted his wife with her house cleaning business and became affectionately known in the neighborhood as the local "Dogfather," caring for and walking dogs while neighbors were at work or away on vacation.

Jim enjoyed reading, classic western serials, action movies, lighthouses, and a good turkey dinner. He was a man of simple pleasures who will be remembered for his kindness, warm smile, faith, genuine interest in the lives of the people he loved,

and his enthusiasm for documenting family events from behind his camera.

Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Rosemarie A. (Rizzo) Brown; his devoted son, James G. Brown, and his wife, Jeri Solomon, of Stoneham; and his cherished grandson, Jason Brown, who brought him immense pride and joy. Jim is

also survived by dear cousins Tracy (Scullin) Gentile and Jack Scullin.

A memorial and celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.

In keeping with Jim's love of animals, donations in his memory to a favorite animal rescue would be warmly appreciated.
