James G. Busemeyer

 

James Gary (Jim) Busemeyer, a remarkable man cherished by many, peacefully passed away on September 29, 2023, at the age of 84. Born in the heart of Cincinnati, Ohio, on September 14, 1939, he was the beloved son of Anthony C. Busemeyer and Helen C. (Heilman) Busemeyer.

Jim leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with his three devoted daughters, Stefanie Busemeyer Neal of Sarasota, Florida, Shelby Busemeyer McKee, and Christine Busemeyer Parry, both of Cincinnati, Ohio. Together with his loving wife, Kay, Jim was a proud grandfather to seven adoring grandchildren: Logan and Ryan Neal, Tanner and Barrett McKee, and Elle, Brynne, and Taylor Parry.

As the youngest of ten siblings, Jim shared a special bond with Richard Busemeyer, Helen Keith, Grace Vogelsang, Carolyn Daniels, Joan Halstead, Maedie Synk, Francis Muldowney, Marge Farquis, and Al Busemeyer. His childhood was filled with the laughter and love that only a large, close-knit family can provide.

Jim graduated from Purcell Marian High School in Cincinnati, and he carried the spirit of his alma mater with him throughout his life. He was a natural salesman, with a knack for connecting with people and a passion for his work. In 1978, he founded the A & J Busemeyer Company, a sales and marketing firm specializing in general merchandise and pet supply products for The Kroger Company. Jim was a mentor to many, guiding his team with wisdom and generosity, and under his leadership, the company's business flourished, doubling in size between 2007 and 2012. In a testament to his success and dedication, Jim successfully sold the business to Acosta in 2012.

Jim's heart found its match when he met Kathryn (Kay) Verdin in 1968. It was a whirlwind romance, and within just a few months, they were happily married. Together, they welcomed three daughters into the world: Stefanie, Shelby, and Christy. The Busemeyer household was filled with love, laughter, and a sense of community, especially in Mariemont, where lifelong friendships were formed.

Jim was a pillar of strength and a man of his word. His one liners and jokes were classics and his delivery of them was unparalleled. He had  a love for golf and the camaraderie. He was a member of the Hyde Park Golf & Country Club, where he enjoyed many rounds with his group of close friends affectionately known as "The Pigs". Jim’s, otherwise known as “Buzzy” unique one-handed putting style was legendary among his golf buddies, earning him a special place in their hearts and in their playful banter.

This year marked Jim and Kay’s 55th year of marriage, a testament to their deep love and commitment to each other. Together, they created a lifetime of memories and built a strong, loving family.

In his retirement, Jim embraced the laid-back lifestyle of Siesta Key, Florida, his favorite place in the world. He loved cruising in his convertible, playing rounds of golf, a few hands of Gin and spending quality time on the dock, beer in hand. The highlight in Siesta Key were visits with his daughters and grandchildren.

Jim’s life was rich in stories, laughter, and love. He had a unique ability to light up a room with his presence and leave a lasting impression on everyone he met.

The Busemeyer family invites friends and loved ones to join them in celebrating Jim’s extraordinary life. A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held in Siesta Key, Florida, with dates to be announced soon.

Jim’s memory will forever be cherished by those who were lucky enough to know him. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend—a truly remarkable man whose legacy will live on in the hearts of many.
