James “Tony” Byrd, 66, passed away at home with family at his side in Star, MS. He was born September 28, 1957, to Shelby and Jean Byrd and grew up in Pearl. He was one of 5 children Ricky Byrd (Sherri), Debbie Horn (Billy), Gregg Byrd and Cassondra Grantham. Like his father and grandfather, he worked in the dirt business his entire life. He married his wife, Tami, in 1980 and had their first-born child, Wesley (Danielle) in 1983. Their second child, Jennifer (Woody) was born the following year. He has 6 grandkids Ainsley, Lake, Brooklyn, Addison, Easton, and Anniston which he went on many camping trips with. Tony was known for riding motorcycles and playing ping pong. He had great skills at these. In recent years he enjoyed camping and riding his electric bike. He lived in Star for more than 40 years, close to all his kinfolk. Tony was a laid-back guy and always well liked.
