James Lester Byrd, 75, a native of Birmingham, Alabama and a resident of Daphne, Alabama, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.
Jim was a very successful Financial Advisor for over 48 years. He wanted to help people and his community. Jim held so many positions in the community as being the Top Regional Managers. Metlife from 1981–1994 #1 Manager Producer for the region in Alabama. He worked with Principal Securities and #2 Manager Producer for 8 years. In 2002, he left and wanted to open his own company, Safe Harbor Financial Services 2002-2023. Jim has accomplished a lot of awards, including Million Dollar Round Table, Court of the Round Table, and small business of the year, as well as Hall of Fame, author of books, and was named in USA Today for being the top producer that he was. Jim was a member of the Republican Party and was a deacon at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Mobile. He sponsored so many different charities; Ten Caring Gifts with Fox 10 News, Toys for Tots, he helped the military by sponsoring all the meals for Memorial Day and the 4 of July, and large Christmas parties at Oak Hollow Farms and he helped with the building of the Military Tears of Joy.
Jim was a true die-hard Alabama Crimson Tide fan, was a member of the "Red Elephant Club" and loved football. He was an avid golfer, fisherman and was a great family man. He loved all his family and loved getting together for cookouts, travelling. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend.
He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 24 years, Jewel D. Byrd; his children, Jennifer K. Byrd of Tri City, TN, and Scott Byrd of Nova Scotia; stepdaughter, Victoria L. Miller of Daphne; son-in-law, Gary Garner; grandchildren, Alexander "AJ" Miller, Lillian C. Miller, Grace Miller, Elizabeth Byrd Ship (Chris) and Emily Parker; and one great grandchild on the way; nephew, Scott Morrison; as well as other family members and many friends. He will also be missed by his babies, Jasper, Snickers, Astro, Yoda, Daisy, and Sadie (the puppies).
Jim is preceded in death by his parents, Eva Kathleen Byrd and James Bernard Byrd; two sisters, Charlotte and Kathy; and one brother, Kenny.
The family wishes to thank Gentiva Hospice, especially Morgan, Julia, Donna, Faith, Kelley, Loretta, Dr. Manley and Dr. Dukes, for their compassionate care of Jim.
A celebration of life service will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, at 1PM. There will be a time of visitation before the service, beginning at 12PM.
