Rick Byrd Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Harwood Cremation and Funeral Services - Canon City on Aug. 7, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Rick (Vaughn) Byrd, 71, of Cañon City, took his final bow on August 5, 2025, likely with a grin and a smart remark on his way out.

Born on October 9, 1953, in Pueblo Colorado, Rick was many things: a husband, a father, a jokester, a fixer of all things broken (even if it meant duct tape and stubbornness), and a master of giving you that look that said everything without saying a word.

He spent his whole life with his partner-in-crime and loving wife, Wanda Byrd, and together they raised a crew that kept life interesting: Vaughn Byrd (Mary Byrd), Robert Byrd, Rickee Faddis, Audra Carochi (Joe Carochi), Sam Byrd (Amy Byrd), Earnie Byrd, and Alberta Newell (James Newell). Rick always said there was never a dull moment- and with that many kids, he was absolutely right.

Rick was the kind of guy who could make you laugh when you didn't want to, who gave solid advice (whether you asked for it or not), and who had a soft spot under his gruff exterior. He loved his family fiercely and completely, and he wasn't shy about saying what was on his mind - especially if it made you laugh or think twice.

He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a family who will miss him more than words can say. His stories, jokes, and life lessons will live on through every one of them.

He is survived by his wife Wanda, 7 kids, and whole tribe of grandkids Vaughn Byrd, Alexa Byrd, Joey Carochi, Hunter Faddis, Joslynn Carochi, Trent Byrd, Tyler Carochi, Damian Byrd, Sky Byrd, Colton Newell, Jaxson Hutchinson, Payton Newell, as well as friends, and family who were lucky enough to be part of HIS WORLD.

We will hold a celebration of life August 16, 2025 at 2:00 o'clock. It will be at 4 Mile Club building 105 Steinmeier Ave Cañon City Colorado.

Rick Byrd may have left the building, but rest assured- his stories will be told, his jokes will be repeated (probably not as well), and his memory will be carried forward with love and a chuckle.
