James E. Byro, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Plainfield, Illinois, on February 5, 2026. He was a proud Marine Corps veteran having served in the Vietnam War. Jim will be remembered for his quiet strength, dry sense of humor, and deep devotion to his family. He enjoyed putzing around the farm, cheering on the Fighting Irish, and spending time with those he loved. A devoted father of five his love was evident in meals he cooked, gatherings he hosted, and the extra care he put into everything he did, always doing more than necessary and doing it beautifully. Jim shared 44 years of marriage with his wife Mary until her passing in 2011. He later found loving companionship with Sharon Wheeler. Their cherished doodle, Molly, was a constant source of joy and happiness.
Jim is survived by his partner, Sharon Wheeler; his children Kelley Rose (Jim), Ronda Wheeler, Kathy Hamm (Todd), Angie Atkins (Michael), and Marty Byro (Robie); grandchildren Sam Rose, Marley Rose, Brooke Atkins, and Lauren Atkins, and brother Jerry Parsons. He is predeceased by his parents Ardith and Louise (Jossendal) Byro. Jim will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. No service. A celebration of life will be held June 13 in Plainfield, IL.
