On Thursday October 23, 2025, James Irvin Byus, loving husband, father and grandfather, passed away at age 78.
James was born on November 15, 1946, in Oklahoma City, OK to Myrtle and Charles Everett Byus. He attended Spencer Public Schools and had a career in landscaping until he retired at age 62. On June 3, 1967, he married Peggy Jean Barnes. They raised two children and have resided in Midwest City for nearly 60 years.
James enjoyed many things including hunting, landscaping, his 1986 Chevy truck, spending weekends at Lake Eufaula, and time with his friends and family. His favorite place to be was on the porch of his lake house enjoying a beer with his wife, Peggy Jean. He will be remembered for his unique hats, cut-off jean shorts and love of his family.
James was preceded in death by his father, Charles, and his mother, Myrtle, his siblings, Kevin, Charles, Tommy, Lena, and Bobby, and brother-in-laws, Gary and Richard. He is survived by his wife Peggy, his two children, James and Tina, his daughter-in-law, Paula, his grandchildren, Christopher, Dakota, Gabrielle, Dustin and Heather, his great-grandchildren, Aiden, Kimber, Maggie, Madison, Dallas, and Walker, his siblings and their spouses, Lonnie and Teresa, Janet and Gary, and Donnie and Don, with many nieces and nephews too.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday October 28, 2025, at the Barnes-Friederich and Pope Funeral Home Ford Chapel on Sooner Road at 11 o'clock.
