James Harold Canada, age 68, of Wildwood, MO, passed away on Friday, December 9, 2022. He was born on July 11, 1954, in Galesburg, IL, to Harold Brown and Mary Lenora (Dilts) Canada.
Jim graduated from Galesburg High School in 1972 and Purdue University in 1976. He married Marta Swanson in February 1978. Jim was a lifelong Boilermaker fan and was proud to see his children follow in his footsteps. Jim cherished spending time with his family and friends. He loved vacationing at his home at Bass Lake, IN, where he enjoyed boating, fishing, grilling, and playing cards.
Jim was an avid networker who spent much of his time and energy connecting with and helping others. He was deeply engaged in the Quad Cities, Tulsa, and St. Louis communities through numerous civic and professional organizations. Some of these include the Chesterfield Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Chesterfield, National Association of Suggestion Systems, Jaycees, Rotary Club, Junior Achievement, Toast Masters, United Way, Cub Scout pack leader and youth basketball coach.
Jim spent over 30 years in the corporate world developing a career that spanned major companies including John Deere, American Airlines, and Reuters. His dream was to one day start his own company, and nearly 15 years ago he realized that dream by founding Alliance Technologies.
Jim was a strong believer in servant leadership and in always doing the right thing for his customers, employees, and partners. He prided himself in creating a culture of empowerment and entrepreneurial spirit where employees felt like family. He was most proud of Alliance being named a top philanthropic company by the St. Louis Business Journal as he loved giving back to the community. He was on the board of Community Value Alliance, founder of the Business Development Team networking group, a member of Experts 4 Entrepreneurs, voted one of the best bosses in 2017 by Small Business Monthly, and recently named to the Titan 100 of St. Louis' top CEOs.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Marta; daughter Colleen; son Mathew (Antoinetta); son Thomas; son Nicholas (Amalia); grandchildren Lucia, Dominic, George, and another due in January; sister Marylee (Mike); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his parents and brother Robert (Carole) Canada.
Visitation for Jim will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 3:00 pm on Friday, December 16, at Living Word United Methodist Church in Wildwood, MO, 17315 Manchester Rd. 63038.
Donations in remembrance of James can be made to Community Value Alliance at www.cvastl.org.

My sincerest condolences to Martha and the children, and all who work at Alliance. Jim was a friend who left us way too soon. I will never forget his ceaseless ability and desire to connect people in business or to resources for anyone in need of help. He was the ultimate go-giver in my book. I will remember you forever, my friend, Jim! I look forward to seeing you again in Heaven!

Jim will always have a special place in my heart because of his incredibly gracious offers to connect me with people early on in my journey starting Built To Lead in St. Louis. His generosity stands alone in the 7+ years I've been doing this work. Rest in peace.

I had the good fortune to meet and observe how Jim engaged with people both personally and professionally. Jim was contracted by my company to lead cross functional teams in a major software platform transition. Was not an easy environment. I was not a key player in the process but had enough opportunity to see how positive, skilled and capable he was at handling difficult circumstances and people with ease and grace. Now to me, I am wired in a way where I am skeptical by nature. When I meet someone who is positive and engaging as Jim was my reaction is to wonder if that is real and how long can they keep it up. Turns out for Jim it was a lifetime.

Jim would stop in my office nearly every morning, even though I was not involved in the project with this big smile, wishing me a good morning and asking me how things were going. In retrospect I think Jim sensed my skepticism and made a point of engaging with me. Didn´t take me long to understand that he was the real deal.

Marta and to all of the family, I am so sorry for your loss, too soon, too fast. The world needs lost more people like Jim.

I am so grateful I met Jim. He was more prepare to meet with me than anyone else I have met with in my 41 years of business. I walked away feeling awesome. The fact that he made the time to come so prepared was telling how much he valued people. I was a member of the BDT group for years before COVID shut us down. I looked forward to the meetings because of the way Jim ran the organization. Consistent, valuable, educational, help first, giving are all words that come to mind. I could also count on Jim's beaming smile whenever we saw each other. It was my privilege to call him a friend. Prayers for comfort and peace are lifted for Jim's family and his entire professional network. Jim, Thank you for being a light in my life.
