James Capasso Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Armer Funeral Home, Inc. - Ballston Spa on Jun. 29, 2023.
James L. Capasso, 76, passed away on Sunday, June 25, 2023, following a short illness. He was born on November 3, 1946, in Glens Falls, NY to James A. and Peggy "Toots" Capasso. A 1964 graduate of Ballston Spa High School and former Marine, Jim served as Mayor of the Village from 1991-1995.
Jim is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Suzanne, his children James A. Capasso, Nicole Capasso, Jessica Engels (Jason), Charles Capasso (Christine) and Alexandra Capasso (Brian Hauprich); his stepmother Marion Capasso; sister Fran, brothers Milt, Edward and Pete; his buddies Walt and Gary; lifelong friends Chuck, Anthony and Bob; and the great loves of his life, his grandchildren – Kaleigh, JP, Jax, Riley and JJ. He is predeceased by his beloved mother Peggy, father James and brother Mike.
Jim loved his community and gave back every chance he could. He spent many years volunteering his time with the Ballston Area Community Center, earning him a much-deserved Man of the Year award. He was inducted into the Ballston Spa Athletics Hall of Fame as a member of the 1964 Basketball State Championship team. In earlier years, Jim loved to camp, fish and golf – and achieved the coveted "hole in one" at Brookhaven. Recently, you could find him discussing local political strategies or front and center at a High School Wrestling Match (possibly getting himself tossed out!).
Those who knew Jim knew he was a force to be reckoned with, who was fiercely loyal and protective of those he loved. He will be deeply missed but has left an enduring legacy.
Friends and relatives are invited to calling hours on Thursday, July 6 from 5pm to 8pm at Armer Funeral Home, Inc., 39 East High Street, Ballston Spa. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim's memory to the Glens Falls Center, 152 Sherman Way, Queensbury, NY 12804.
