James E. "Gene" Carnation, 68, died on June 8th, 2023, in Tyler, Texas, with his wife and daughters by his side.
Gene was born February 13, 1955, in DeQueen, Arkansas. He graduated from Texas High in Texarkana, Texas. Gene accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age and continued to follow Jesus all his life. He loved nature, enjoying all of God's creation. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish, especially with his girls, grandkids and brother. He also loved working in his garden and always had plenty of tomatoes to share with friends and family. Flowers were always in abundance in his yard and he often had a handpicked bouquet in the house for his girls. Gene had a strong work ethic and always provided well for his family, retiring from AT&T in 2015.
Gene was preceded in death by his father James T. Thompson, his mother Lyda M. Reinheimer, and his stepfather Charles R. Carnation.
He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Jeanine Carnation; daughter, Jillian Carter and husband Bryan of Tyler; daughter Jocelyn Carnation of Tyler; grandkids Audra, William, Anna, and Cameron; sister Viki Smith and husband Ken of Laguna Beach, California; brother Alan Carnation and wife Joy of Hughes Springs; and his loving mother-in-law, Joene Bryant of Tyler.
Friends and family visitation will be Tuesday, June 13th, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Stewart Family Funeral Home in Tyler.
If desired, memorials may be made to Hospice of East Texas, 4111 University Blvd., Tyler, TX 75701 (www.hospiceofeasttexas.org).

I'm so very sorry to hear of Gene's passing. i first met Gene when i was a junior at Texas High School in Texarkana. we became good friends and had great times being teenagers. we worked together at K-Mart foods sacking groceries and double dating and made plenty trips in my VW to Crystal Springs Beach just a few miles away outside city limits.
Gene was a great friend but lost touch after we graduated and went our separate ways. i was also blessed to know his mom and sister Vicki during our friendship. my world has a sense of emptiness knowing now of his passing. my deepest condolences to all of his family. May God bless you, rest in peace my friend. i truly believe we'll meet again and rejoice in His presence. john rushing
