James was born in Freeport, Long Island, New York, on July 23, 1941. He worked for Honor Health over 33 years and enjoyed reading, traveling having visited 42 countries. James was a proud father of daughters and their accomplishment. He was especially proud of his grandchildren, always commenting "how lucky he was".
He is survived by husband: Paul Stratman; four daughters: Donnamarie (Andrew) Krause, Dawn Parrish, Kim Foreman, Carrie (Kevin) Nordbrock; seven grandsons: Caleb, Nathaniel, Mitchell, James, Cody, Tommy, Cole; three granddaughters: Rebecca, Carli, Alexandria; four great grandsons: Noah, Angelo, Giovanni, and Carson; nieces and nephews; sister: Patricia (Tom) Fitzsimmons and brother: Louis Ackley.
Predeceased by mother: Rose Scott – Ackley; and fathers: James W. Carter and Louis Ackley, Sr.
Service will be held at Saint James Episcopal Church at 975 East Warner Road, Tempe, AZ, 85284 on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 11:00 AM with Reverand Canon Robert Phillips Officiating.
Memorials are requested to be sent to Saint James Episcopal Church or Hospice of the Valley, 1510 East Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ, 85014.
