James Edward Castle was born on November 12, 1950, to the late James and Ollie Mae (Vanhoose) Castle. James married Sherry (Wright) Castle on September 6, 1969. They were married for 54 years. Sherry preceded him in death on July 2, 2023. James passed away at his daughter's home on November 6, 2025.

James is survived by his two children, Leah (Mark) Murray, and Wade (Betty) Castle, four grandchildren, Olivia (Bryce) Workman, Luke Murray (Anna Bussey), Katie (Daniel) Carrico, Macy (Matt) Mills, and three great-grandsons, Cullen, Fletcher, and Leland Carrico. He is also survived by one brother, Stephen Castle.

James worked for Southeast Coal Company for thirteen years, and for a short time was a part-time DJ for WIFX Radio. He retired in 1990 from American Mine Tool. After retiring, James kept busy with his grandchildren and helping Wade at the store. James and Sherry spent many winters in Florida, along the St. John River, and at Georgia Boys Fish Camp, where James loved to fish and Sherry loved to sun. Over the years, James enjoyed hunting and fishing trips with his son and friends to Canada, Colorado, and Florida. He enjoyed making new friends in Florida in the little towns of Palatka and Satsuma. In recent years, James was no longer able to hunt or fish, but enjoyed watching the birds and deer from his window. James enjoyed his grandchildren, all of whom he was very proud of. He will be missed by his family and friends.

A memorial visitation celebrating James's life will be held on Sunday, November 9, 2025, at the Jones-Preston Funeral Home from 2 P.M. until 5 P.M.

Jones-Preston Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
