James Robert "Cat" Chambers
January 3, 1937 – January 9, 2025
Waynesville– James "Cat" Chambers, a lifelong resident of Haywood County, went to his eternal home January 9, 2025, at the age of 88. James was born January 3, 1937 to the late Elmer and Fannie Mae Chambers. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife Betty Ann Sanford Chambers and siblings.
James was known to his family and friends as "Cat" he retired from American Enka as a Bulldozer operator after 39 years. He enjoyed hunting, especially fish and deer. He enjoyed being outdoors camping or just picking berries so he could make homemade jelly to put on the biscuits he'd make. He liked to wheel and deal so he could make a dollar. He said as long as he has a dollar, he'd never be broke. He also enjoyed playing Rummy and working on old cars.
Surviving is his three daughters Betty Jean McGaha and her husband Dwayne, Patricia Chambers and Carolyn Sue Denny along with numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, family and friends.
A Celebration of Cat's life will be held Saturday January 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm at New Hope Church of God on Mauney Cove Rd. The Rev. Jeff Wheeler will officiate.
