James Harley Chappelear

James Harley Chappelear of Chickamauga went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 19, 2025. He was born on May 25, 1942 in Chattanooga, Tennessee, a son of the late Harry Lee Chappelear and Ruth Pauline Burr Chappelear. James graduated from Davis High School in Trenton, GA and was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Chapp retired from Alco Chemical after over 30 years of service. He enjoyed metal detecting, woodworking, serving others and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, Betty Chappelear.

Survivors include his sons, James (Lacina) Chappelear, Jr., Mark (Tracey) Chappelear, Josh (Beth) Chappelear; daughter, Pamela (Greg) Smith; grandchildren, Mitchell, Toby (Allison), Micah (Haley), Garrett (Lydia), Greyson (Lillian), Dillon (Allison), Chandler, Kayleigh (Josh), Kara, Cooper and Colson and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 12:00 Noon Tuesday in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Greg Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Lafayette Memory Gardens.

The family will receive friends 4-8 PM Monday and 10-12 Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.
