Belle Plaine-James C. Chekal, cherished son of Austin and Kayla (Tuttle) Chekal, was born on February 14, 2025, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Though his time here was brief, James filled his family’s hearts with a lifetime of love. He was a joyful little boy whose bright spirit brought smiles to everyone around him. James had a special love for the movie K-pop demon hunters especially the song “Free”, which never failed to make him smile, he was even known to wake up from a nap when it would come on. He loved to jump, he enjoyed spending time with his siblings, sharing laughter and special moments that will forever be treasured. James found happiness in the simple things that made his eyes light up, anything that spun, colorful dancing fruit on the screen, and watching Mickey Mouse. James was deeply loved and will always be remembered for the happiness he brought into the lives of those who knew him. Though he was here for only a short time, his impact was immeasurable, and his memory will live on in the hearts of his family always. He is forever loved, forever missed, and forever part of his family’s story. James passed away March 27, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at the age of 13 months in Iowa City.
