James Burton Codlin, age 106 of Hibiscus Court, Melbourne, Florida, passed away on March 19, 2023 succumbing to congestive heart failure.
James was born to Harry E. Codlin and Carrie M. Codlin on November 13, 1916. James graduated from Adel High School, Adel, Iowa in 1934 and went on to study mechanical engineering at Iowa State College, Ames, Iowa. He started his first job at Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company as an engineer, starting a 42-year career in construction machinery design and manufacturing.
In 1936 James met Elsie J. Larsen at Iowa State. James and Elsie went on to have 4 children, Kenneth Edmund, Dennis Eric, James Russell and Katherine Nancy. All of his life, James was passionate about camping and canoeing, volunteering for a school board, serving on homeowner association boards, and motor home travel. He was a tinkerer, people person, keeper of spreadsheets, and a consummate engineer. His affiliations were Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Iowa State University and Society of Automotive Engineers.
James was predeceased by Elsie, his wife of 63 years and Kenneth, and by second wife June Pflueger Codlin.
He is survived by Dennis (Jaquelin), Katherine, and James (Terri) and numerous loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
