James Coffas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by James Funeral Home on Dec. 26, 2025.
James Coffas, 84, of Cornelius, passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025.

Born on September 2, 1941, James was the beloved son of the late Charles and Helen Coffas. A man of deep character and devotion, James lived a life centered on service, family, and compassion for others.

James proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, a commitment that reflected his lifelong sense of duty. Following his military service, he pursued a career in law, a profession he truly loved. His dedication to helping others extended beyond his work, and he was honored as Volunteer of the Year in Columbia, South Carolina, an achievement he held with great pride.

Above all else, James loved his family. He was married for 62 years to the love of his life, Ruthanne Coffas, who was everything to him. Together, they built a family rooted in love, laughter, and strong values. He taught his children the importance of family and remained deeply devoted to his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren throughout his life.

James is survived by his wife, Ruthanne Coffas; daughters and sons-in-law, Debbi and Marcel Boudet, Lisa and Rob Squatriglia; grandchildren, Brenden Boudet and wife Fay, Leia Boudet, Hudson Boudet and wife Kylah, Morgan Squatriglia, and Jim Squatriglia; and great-grandchildren, Evie, Ellie, and Kieran. He also cherished his sons-in-law as if they were his own sons.

Known for his quick wit and warm sense of humor, James loved to tell jokes, laugh often, and share stories that brought people together. His kindness, generosity, and genuine love for helping others left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life, with military honors, will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, 11:00am, at James Funeral Home of Huntersville.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in James' name, may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation by clicking DONATE.

James will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and all whose lives he touched.

Jim was a long time friend that was like family. I loved his kindness and shared his love of bridge, and occasionally laughed at his jokes. Jim will be missed. My love and hugs go out to Ruth and family during this sad time.
