James Michael "Rock and Roll Cole" Cole passed away on October 30, 2025, in Roseville, California. Born on July 19, 1952, at Elgin Air Force Base in Florida, James lived a life marked by dedication-to his country, his family, and the passions that brought him joy.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, James served with honor for 24 years, from November 1972 until his retirement in November 1996. His military career was a cornerstone of his life, reflecting his deep sense of duty and commitment to service.
James was affectionately known as "Rock and Roll Cole," a nickname that captured both his vibrant personality and his lifelong love for music. An avid fan of rock and roll, he could often be found attending concerts, playing guitar, and spinning records from his extensive collection. His enthusiasm for music was infectious and became one of the many ways he connected with those around him.
Beyond music, James had a passion for woodworking-a craft he pursued with skill and creativity. He also found great joy in officiating girls' softball games, where he served as an umpire with fairness and good humor. He was a respected ASA/USA Elite umpire helping train, guide, and support young umpires.
James was also an enthusiastic comic book collector, finding delight in the colorful worlds and heroic tales that mirrored his sense of fun and adventure. Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, he was a jokester at heart who brought laughter into every room he entered.
Above all else, James cherished his family. He shared 52 loving years of marriage with Kathleen Cole. Together they raised two children: Tara Cole and Jason Cole. Jason's wife, Valerie Cole, became part of the close knit family circle that James held so dear. He took immense pride in being a grandfather to Addisen, Parker, Emerson, and Ellis-four granddaughters who brought light into his life.
James was preceded in death by his parents Harold E. Cole and Marianne M. Cole.
James Michael Cole leaves behind a legacy of laughter, loyalty, and love - a man who served with honor and lived with heart. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him. A Memorial Service will be held on November 6, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond Street, Yuba City, California.
