James “Scooter” Edward Collins, age 82, entered peacefully into eternal rest at his residence on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. He was a native of Chatfield, AR and a resident of New Orleans, LA. James was a graduate of L. B. Landry High School. He was a retired offshore cook with Art Catering, where he earned the title of Camp Boss. James was a member of Westbank Men of Distinction Social Club. Beloved husband of Eve Brooks Collins. Loving father of James Edward (Angela) Collins, Jr., Kenneth Collins, Calvin (Stephanie) Collins, Arshield (Alice) Johnson, Phaedra Johnson, Latronia (Raymond) Newton, and the late Kyra Johnson. Son of the late Willie Mathis Collins and Lou Rainey Rhodes. Brother of Patricia Williams, Willie Collins, Steve Collins, Charles (Amanda) Collins, and the late Margie Winesberry and Robert Collins, Sr. Uncle of the late Robert Collins, Jr. and Johnny Winesberry. Son-in-law of Frank Hill and Cecile Hill. Brother-in-law of Leroy Gardner, Wayne Minor, Gerard T. Hill, Amanda Collins, Pamela Luke, Frankie Gardner, Charlotte Lewis, and Kathy Minor. “Scooter”, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, is also survived by 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends. Relatives and friends of the family, also pastors, officers, and members of Regular Baptist Church and all neighboring churches; members of Westbank Men of Distinction Social Club are invited to attend the Homegoing Celebration at Regular Baptist Church, 901 5th Street Gretna, LA on Friday, May 19, 2023, at 10:00a.m. Pastor T. A. Hodge, officiating. Viewing will be held from 8:30a.m.-10:00a.m. at the church.
