Mr. James Dewitt Cook, 80, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2025. He was born on January 25, 1945 in Surry County to the late Ray Columbus Cook and Pearl Hodge Cook. James was a huge sports fan, more specifically, he was a fan of the Carolina Tarheels and the New York Yankees. He also enjoyed buying and selling antiques. Lastly, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ralph “Bud” Cook. James is survived by beloved wife, Judy Cook; children, Shannon (Brian) Hopkins and Michael (Tara) Cook; grandchildren, Brianna Merritt, Tyler Merritt, Kali Cook, Keylan Cook, Kinley Cook, and Kyra Cook; sisters, Linda Brown and Pansy “Tilone” Hamilton; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service for James will be held on Sunday, July 6, 2025 at 4:00 PM at Welcome Valley Baptist Church in Elkin with Rev. Billy Jenkins officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 2:00 – 4:00 PM at Welcome Valley Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
