James Cooper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Porto Funeral Homes - East Haven on Oct. 3, 2025.
James R "Jimmy" CooperIt is with profound sorrow that we announce that Jimmy unexpectedly passed away on February 26, 2025 at St. Mary's Hospital in Waterbury. He had been residing at Glendale Center in Naugatuck, CT. Born on April 19, 1966 in Bridgeport, Jimmy grew up in North Branford, CT and graduated from North Branford High School. He sought a career in Auto Repair. Jimmy was intelligent and talented, he could build and repair just about anything. He was not one to sit still. On September 7, 1991, Jimmy's car was hit head on by a drunk driver. He suffered severe brain damage and spent the rest of his life fighting to recuperate in hospitals and nursing facilities. The progress he made was amazing including learning to walk (five miles a day!), reading, eating, writing, typing, etc. He is survived by his sisters, Susan J Cooper of New Haven and Kimberly Cooper Casella (Scott) of Southington. He is also mourned by his nephews, Josh Cooper and Matthew Casella. He leaves his stepbrothers, Christopher Bauer (Teresa), Jeffrey Bauer (Kelli), his stepmother, Judith Bauer Cooper and step nephews, Nickolas, Steve and Taylor Bauer. He will be missed by many loving friends. He was predeceased by his loving parents, Robert H Cooper and Jeanne F Cooper. Jimmy loved children most of all but he also loved animals, fishing, camping, the NY Yankees, Nascar and the Steelers. Jimmy was a Warrior fighting calmly to survive and recuperate. He had a wicked sense of humor, was kind and helpful beyond measure and loving to everyone.Family and friends may call at the PORTO FUNERAL HOME, 234 Foxon Rd.
