James Lankford "Corkey" Murr, 74 passed from this life on April 1, 2023 at his home in Junction, Texas.
Corkey was born on September 21, 1948 in Brady, Texas to JD Murr and Dorothy Lankford Murr. Corkey grew up hunting, fishing and riding horses. His love of horses led him to turn in a fake ID at age 15 so he could ride professionally as a jockey. From being a jockey to training horses-that was his passion.
Corkey served in the US Army and was a decorated sharp shooter. Due to medical reasons he served the remainder of his duty as an Army Medic. After leaving the Army; he returned to Junction. Per his friend Jimmy Bankston ... "He came flying down that hill in a beige Buick with a cowboy hat cocked to one side. He was home." That cowboy hat turned into a cap and pearl snap shirt. This became his outfit of choice.
In 1976 he met his wife, Judy and their family grew. They lived in Menard for 9 years and then moved to Junction where he lived until his passing.
Corkey was preceded in death by his parents: JD Murr and Dorothy Lankford Murr.
He is survived by his wife, Judy and their children: Cody, Dori (Wade), Casey, Susan, Colt (Kristie) and step children: Dianna, Juli (Levi Sr.), Amy (Gilbert) and Mike. Grandchildren: Allisa (Keelin), Caitlyn, Stormie, and Kyler along with Abby (Richard), Brian, Levi Jr. and Emily. Great Grandchildren: Marshall and Richard Jr. Sisters: Brinda Brown and Jinx Merry and many nieces and nephews.
Corkey is also survived by Jimmy Bankston and Teddy Holekamp who have been true lifelong friends.
Corkey was a simple man. If he liked you; you knew it and if he didn't ... you knew it even more. He raised a little hell, drank a little beer, had a knowledge of horses and his grandchildren stole his heart. He will be truly missed by family and friends without a doubt. "Oh the last goodbye's the hardest one to say, and this is where the cowboy rides away"
Visitation will be Thursday, April 6th from 5-7 at Kimble Funeral Home.
Graveside services will be Friday, April 7th in Junction Cemetery at 1:00pm. The family would like everyone to come to the Fairgrounds after the service to celebrate Corkey's life.
Pallbearers will be Jimmy Bankston, Teddy Holekamp, Gary Gardner, Jerry Don Chenault, Gilbert Gonzales and Matt Suttle.
Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kimble Funeral Home.
