James C Cottrell, 73, of Riverdale, passed away on Friday November 14, 2025, at the McKay-Dee Hospital following a major surgery. The family wants to express thanks and gratitude for all the care received from nurses, doctors, and staff.
Jim was blessed with one son, Mark, with Charlyn Datwyler. Jim and Mark shared the love of guns, shooting, guitars and DIY remodeling.
Jim had various jobs including, Ogden City, Clearfield City, and working his way up from meter reader to lineman and finally to substation foreman at Rocky Mountain Power where he retired in 2006.
Jim enjoyed motorcycles, red corvettes, playing cards, buying guns, target shooting, trap and sporting clays. He loved the many special dogs that were a constant in his life. He was always supportive of Judy’s hobbies and Travel.
Jim is survived by Judy, wife of 51 years; son, Mark; daughter-in-law, Kathy; and loving granddaughter, Jada; sister-in-law, Ceva (Jerry); sisters, Linda and Karolyn; brother-in-law Bob (Gloria) and Paul (Joann); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his father, James C Cottrell; stepfather, Paul Sersland; mother, Madeline Sersland; sisters, Julieann and Sandy; and brothers, Dan and Jerry.
At Jim’s request there will be no service, with a celebration of life in the spring.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to a local animal rescue of your choice.
