James F. Crepeau, a lifelong resident of Michigan, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026, in
Troy, Michigan, at the age of 82. Born on March 23, 1943, in
Detroit, Michigan, Jim lived a life defined by family, faith and a tireless work ethic.
Jim was a devoted husband to Susanne for 53 years and a beloved father to his children, Lisa Smigiel and Kevin (Katie) Crepeau. His legacy of love continues through his cherished grandchildren, Nolan, Chloe, Ethan, and Grayson, who lovingly called him, "Grandpa Jimmy" and furry grand dogs, Saul, Archie, and Lacey.
He is survived by his siblings, Fr. John Crepeau and Tom (Diane) Crepeau, his sister, Kathleen (Ken) Lancharic and beloved Auntie Evelyn Tourville. He also leaves behind his brothers-in-law, Jerry Baranski and Tom (Doretta) Baranski, sister-in-law, Melody Baranski, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Cecelia Crepeau and Uncle Jerry Tourville. He had a special bond with his late in laws, Anthony and Emily Baranski, and brothers-in-law, Ron Baranski and Larry (Joanne) Baranski.
After the untimely passing of his father, Jim took on the role of a provider for his family at a young age, showcasing his dedication and resilience. He was known for his entrepreneurial spirit, starting with his youthful endeavors delivering the "Dziennik Polski."
Music was a passion that enriched Jim's life; he was an accomplished accordion player. Jim taught music lessons at the Americana Studio and played 'band jobs' with Polka Joe and the Stereo Sounds performing at more than 300 weddings (many were classmates from St. Augustine Catholic Church on the east side of Detroit). He grew up across the street from St. Augustine, and the church played a large role in his childhood - serving as an altar boy. As a young adult, his career began in accounting after graduating from Walsh College, where his skills allowed him to thrive in the business world. However, as the economy evolved, Jim found a new calling in the funeral service industry, initially as a hearse driver and eventually as a vital team member at Wasik Funeral Home in Warren.
Jim's unwavering positivity and work ethic were evident to all who knew him, traits that he carried with him in every endeavor, working multiple jobs to provide for his family including delivering papers for the Detroit Free Press.
He was known for his storytelling and corny jokes – he had special memories as the first grandchild and eldest Crepeau cousin – riding up to Hancock, MI, in the UP, for summer vacations and eating pasties. He loved to travel with Sue to Vegas and Florida, and they took numerous family trips to Disney World and the Florida Keys with his grandchildren. He was an avid golfer with his son, Kevin, as they traveled around to play different courses. Jim also loved Detroit Sports – for better or worse – a passion he shared with his father. As his health declined, he enjoyed reading, sitting out in the sun and writing notes to family and friends.
Family, friends, and colleagues will gather to honor Jim's life and legacy. Visitation will be held at Wasik Funeral Home in
Warren, MI, on Friday, January 30th, 2026, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Additional services include an instate at St. Malachy Catholic Church in Sterling Heights, MI, on Saturday, January 31st, 2026, from 10:30 am to 11:00 am, followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 am.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wasik Funeral Home, whose care and support for the Crepeau family during this time are deeply appreciated.
Jim will be remembered for his joking nature, his kindness and his unwavering dedication to his family and friends. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who knew him.
