James E. Crews, age 78, of Canton, Georgia, peacefully entered his eternal rest on August 1, 2025. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and servant of the Lord. He was born to the late Mr. James Henry and Mrs. Dorothy Crews of Richmond Virginia. He proudly served in the United States Army and was deployed during the Vietnam War from 1968 to 1972. Following an injury sustained during his service, he received an honorable discharge. During his time in the military, James was awarded the Vietnam Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and earned the Expert Marksmanship Badge with both the M14 and M16 rifles.
James is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Cathy El Crews. Together, they shared a beautiful and blended family consisting of seven daughters and four sons. He was preceded in death by two sons, Brian Thomas and Michael Crews, and one daughter, Hadarah Crews.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children (Daughters) Michelle Crews, Lila Crews, Hannah (Sammy) Crews, Erica (Patrick) Staggs, Marissa (Landen) Prather, and Kimberly (Darold) Ford (Sons) Warren Crews and Elijah Crews
He was a proud grandfather of 40 grandchildren and a loving great-grandfather to a host of great-grandchildren.
James is also survived by his brothers and sister: Johnny (Sandra) Crews, Jerome Crews, Johnthan (Angie) Crews and Camora (Russell) Brown.
He is remembered with love by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Linda (Russell) Vines, Constance (Kevin) Foster, Andre (Gaylor) Vines, Angela Vines, and Anthony Hopkins.
A host of nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends also mourn his passing, including his special friend Pamela Langston.
A faithful servant of God, James served as an ordained deacon, a dedicated member of the male chorus, and an active member of Zion Baptist Church in Canton, Georgia.
His life was a testimony of love, service, and faith. He will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
The Celebration of Life Service for Mr. James E. Crews will be held on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 3:00 PM EST at Zion Baptist Church, located at 400 Crisler Street, Canton, GA 30114. Rev. Charles Morgan will serve as Pastor and Eulogist, and Rev. Patterson will officiate. Mr. Crews will will lie-in-state at the church on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until the funeral hour. A private burial will be at the Georgia National Cemetery.
