James Culp Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Memorial Funeral Home - Fanwood on Dec. 5, 2025.
In Loving Memory of James Franklin Culp
James Franklin Culp, known affectionately to many as Jim, Skipper, Jimmy, Dad, and Pop-Pop, was called home to rest on Monday, November 4, 2025.
Born on August 13, 1955, in Brownsville, Pennsylvania, Jim was the oldest son of the late Frank Lindberg Culp and Marva Louise Baker-Culp. He carried the deep love and legacy of his parents throughout his life.
Jim's family eventually settled in Middlesex, New Jersey, where he attended school and established deep community roots. At an early age, he accepted Christ at First Baptist Church in Bound Brook, NJ, where the family faithfully attended services.
A cherished memory Jim often humorously referenced was the birth of his younger brother, Brian, when Jim was ten years old. As Jim would frequently joke, his "reign as king of the house" ended the day Brian arrived. The brothers shared a unique and loving bond throughout their lives.
During his high school years, Jim was deeply involved in athletics, primarily focusing on football and basketball. He was a star Wide Receiver for his high school football team, where his dedication and skill earned him respect on and off the field. Jim proudly graduated in 1974 and earned a scholarship to play football at Missouri Valley College.
After attending college for about a year, Jim returned to Middlesex and embarked on a dedicated professional career. He began working at AT&T and retired after 22 years of service. Never one to remain idle, he spent the next few years taking on various consulting roles in the technology industry, exploring the sale of healthy beverages, and, at the time of his passing, was employed at Home Depot.
In 1981, Jim married Jeanne Hardy, and together they welcomed their beloved son, Jamie Culp, on February 18, 1987. Jim was a truly devoted father who cherished every moment with Jamie, from coaching his soccer team to encouraging his interests in football. He demonstrated his unwavering support and love by spending countless hours driving to Virginia to visit Jamie after he moved.
For more than 30 years, Jim shared his life with Terrie O'Rourke, and he played a role in raising her son, Dennis. Together, Jim and Terrie shared a love for adventure and travel, enjoying trips to beautiful destinations such as Hawaii, Jamaica, the Caribbean, and the southwestern United States.
Jim's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved him. He is survived by his beloved son, Jamie Culp, and grandson Jayce; his devoted brother, Brian Culp (Beth); and countless friends and extended family members who will forever remember his warm smile, generous spirit, and competitive nature.
Jim's life was a testament to dedication-to his faith, his work, and, most importantly, his family. His presence will be deeply missed, but his memory will be a blessing.
