James Cummins

James Henry Cummins, 56, of Taylor, Michigan, passed away on June 16, 2025, in Taylor. Born on May 29, 1969, in Wayne, Michigan, James lived a life marked by dedication to his work and unwavering love for his family.
For over three decades, James worked as a cook at Medilodge of Taylor. His commitment to his craft and the people he served was evident in every meal he prepared. Known for his strong work ethic and genuine desire to bring joy to others, James was a beloved presence among colleagues and residents alike.
James was a man of many passions. He found joy in bowling and golf, cheered enthusiastically for his favorite hockey and football teams, and spent countless hours immersed in video games. Music played a special role in his life-he enjoyed playing both the piano and guitar-and he never missed an opportunity to attend a concert or settle in for a good scary movie. Above all else, James cherished time with his family.
He is survived by his devoted wife Jennifer; his son Nathan; his daughter Lexie; his sisters Sandra Thompson and Marty Vitale; his brother-in-law Francesco Vitale; and nephews Samuel Vitale and Joshua Vitale. His deep love for them was the cornerstone of his life.
James was preceded in death by his mother: Shirley; his father: Henry; his grandmother: Maggie; and grandfather: Robert.
Those who knew James will remember him as funny, stubborn in the best way, kind-hearted, caring, and loving. He had a gift for storytelling that could light up any room. A true family man and people pleaser at heart, James gave of himself freely and fully. His devotion left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him.

Friends may gather Friday June 27, 2025, from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Merkle Funeral Service, Romulus (formerly Crane Funeral Home) 36885 Goddard Road, Romulus, Michigan 48174 (734) 941-9200. A Celebration of His Life will take place at 1:00pm, also at Merkle's. A procession to Michigan Memorial Park Cemetery will immediately follow for interment.
