Jimmy Joe Hamlet

Jimmy Joe Hamlet was born June 6, 1947, in Gainesboro, Tennessee. He was the son of Oliver Wilburn Hamlet and Rita Mae D'Angelo (Miller). Alongside his brother, Henry, he was raised under the guidance of his father with assistance from his grandmother. Jimmy enlisted in the United States Army, where he honorably served this great nation from October of 1967 until October of 1970. While in the military, Jimmy obtained his High School Diploma, while also earning the National Defense Service Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle).

Jimmy worked as a laborer for Rouge Steel for more than thirty-five years. His life took a remarkable turn when he met the former Patricia Yonish at his workplace. Patricia's intent was to set him up with a friend, but she soon realized that he was too good of a catch to let go. The two quickly formed a bond and their romance blossomed. The happy couple decided on an intimate wedding at her parents' home in Dearborn Heights on July 15, 1972. Just hours after exchanging vows, they celebrated their new life together by attending a car race, where they embraced the excitement and felt the adrenaline that matched the love they shared.

A true craftsman, Jimmy had a passion for classic cars. He was renowned for his meticulous work on automobiles and motorcycles. He proudly restored a 1951 rose beige Mercury, a favorite among the many projects he undertook. He also had an artistic side, often painting and drawing pictures of cars, many that passed through his life. He became known in his community for the restoration projects he undertook, often doing work for friends and acquaintances who needed a touch of his magic.

His artistry extended into music as well, where he delighted himself and others by writing songs and even performing at local karaoke nights.

Jimmy Joe Hamlet, age 78, of Romulus, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Sunday; August 17, 2025. His passing was preceded by his parents and his brother: Henry Earl Hamlet.

To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife of fifty-three years: Patricia; three children: Chad Yonish, James Kahn (Lindi) Hamlet, and Kathryn Jeanette (Jamie) Pelack; three grandchildren: Kayla Lynn Yonish, Daniel Scott Pelack, and Logan James Hamlet.

His care was entrusted to Merkle Funeral Service, Romulus (formerly Crane Funeral Home); 36885 Goddard Road, Romulus, Michigan 48174 (734) 941-9200. Cremation has taken place through Covenant Cremation of Erie, Michigan, a division of Merkle Enterprises, Inc.
