James Dasinger, Sr., 80, of Valdosta, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2021 at South Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness. A loving husband and father, he loved his family, Alabama Football, and a nice drink of scotch. He was born on November 25, 1940 to the late Lloyd Cornelius Dasinger and Vernice Robison Dasinger. He was born in Henry County, AL, where he attended Headland High School in the early 1960's. He played football, basketball, and baseball for the Headland Rams. After high school he attended UGA for a time, then he enlisted into the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne as a paratrooper. Following his service, James then went into the hotel business in Miami. In 1965 he met the former Sheryl Marie Boland, and they were married on September 15, 1966. They moved to Dothan, AL in the mid 1970's, where they lived until they moved to Valdosta in 1997, when Sheryl took a job with Valdosta State University. James started working for Action Pawn in Adel about 15 years ago. He greatly enjoyed his interaction with the interesting people and items over the years.
James is survived by his wife Sheryl Boland Dasinger, of Valdosta; his daughter Kelly Dasinger-Sitkin, of Madison, WI; his son James Wesley Dasinger, Jr. (Sara Rudow), of Washington, D.C.; his grandchildren Rachel Sitkin, of Sun Prairie, WI, and Elizabeth Sitkin, of Charleston, SC; his brother and sister-in-law Jack and Edith Dasinger, of Newnan, GA; his sister Martha Trawick, of Carabelle, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Jeanette, and three half-brothers, and one half-sister.
A reception for James will be held from 5-7pm on Tuesday, October 19, 2021 at Park Place, 108 W. Park Avenue, Valdosta, GA 31602. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pearlman Cancer Center, P.O. Box 1727, Valdosta, GA 31603. Condolences to the family may be conveyed online on the obituary page at www.mclanecares.com.
