James Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lewis Funeral Home - San Antonio on Dec. 24, 2025.
James Otis Davis Sr., lovingly known as "Peanut," passed away on December 11, 2025, at the age of 75. He was born on May 1, 1950, in Columbus, Mississippi, to the late Fred D. Davis Sr. and Ora Mae Cox Davis.

Deeply rooted in Southern values, James carried warmth, strength, and devotion throughout his life. He met and married his childhood crush, Brenda Clark, in 1977. Their marriage was a beautiful testament to true love, spanning 48 blissful years. Together, they built a life grounded in faith, loyalty, and genuine companionship-an example to all who knew them.

From their union, two children were born and lovingly raised: James O. Davis Jr. and Tamika D. Davis, both of whom were the pride and joy of his life.

James had a lifelong love for sports, especially baseball. From childhood onward, he was known as a great thrower and catcher, though he appreciated all sports. He was also gifted with a singing voice, a talent lovingly passed down to both his children, Tamika and James Jr.

He honorably served in the United States Army for 20 years, retiring in 1992 after a career marked by dedication and discipline. Following his retirement, San Antonio, Texas became his permanent home. He later worked as a security officer at the San Antonio International Airport until his health no longer permitted him to continue.

James enjoyed traveling and cherished making memories, with Las Vegas being one of his favorite destinations, and singing love songs to his wife.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and loving wife, Brenda Davis; his two children, James O. Davis Jr. and Tamika D. Davis; his siblings, Levan Jordan, Leroy Jordan, Reginald Jordan, Charles Earl Nabors, Brenda Jordan, Dorothy, Elaine Gavin (Jessie), Fred Davis, Johnny Davis (Debra), William Davis, Tommie Davis (Joann),Vernell Davis (JoAnn), and Yvonne Hairston (LA); along with numerous other close relatives and special friends.

James was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Ora Davis, his brother: Booker T. Davis, and his grandmother: Maggie Shelley, who welcomed him home in heaven.

James Otis Davis Sr. will be remembered for his love of family, his unwavering commitment to service, his joyful spirit, and the genuine bond he shared with those he loved. His legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
