EUREKA– James R. "Jim" Deck, 74, formerly of Eureka and Danville, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025, at Arcadia Care in Morton.
He was born on March 3, 1951, in Peoria, Illinois, to Harold Jr. and Mary (Rice) Deck. Jim married Alice Hopkins on December 10, 1977. She preceded him in death on July 24, 2021. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Robert "Bob" Deck.
Surviving are his children, David (Misa) Johnson of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Carrie Johnson of Minier, Illinois; grandsons, Alex Johnson of Des Moines, Iowa and Jesse Sprinkle of Minier, Illinois; and sister, Carol Lewis of Maricopa, Arizona.
Jim was an engineer for Caterpillar in East Peoria.
He was a member of the Mackinaw Canoe Club, Square Dance Club, a fishing club and a geode/rock hunting club. Jim was a Boy Scout Leader for Troop 57.
Traveling by train was a favorite for Jim. One of his treasured train adventures was to Canada. He also enjoyed visiting The Golden Horse Ranch in Wisconsin.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Olio Township Cemetery in Eureka. Following the graveside service, a celebration of life service will be held at Michael's Italian Restaurant in Eureka.
Memorials may be made to Transitions Hospice or American Heart Association.
