James (Jim) Lee DeDitius, our loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on December 6th at the age of 81. Born April 14, 1942 in Indianapolis, IN, Jim was a graduate of Ferris State University where he earned his pharmacy degree. His career as a pharmacist allowed him to work in several roles, and he especially loved serving his community during his time working at the Family Health Center in downtown Kalamazoo and in various Rite Aid pharmacies throughout West Michigan. Jim was a true family man and his favorite role in life was husband and father. He was active in the Mattawan Schools community, supporting his children in their extracurricular activities, especially in the Boy Scouts as he thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors. He especially loved camping and fishing, spending time at the family’s property in Ossineke, MI and exploring the country and world with his wife. Jim was known to be a storyteller and a bit of a prankster. He was big-hearted, loved making people laugh and was always available to lend a helping hand.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Lester and Louise DeDitius and brother, Don DeDitius.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sherry DeDitius; children, Mike DeDitius and Christy (Matt) Skylis; grandchildren, Adalyn, Jason, and Eliza Skylis; mother-in-law, Norma MacKenzie; and many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, December 13, 2023 from 10:30-11:30am at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Burial and Cremation Services, 3926 S 9th St, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, where a funeral service will take place at 11:30am. A time for fellowship will immediately follow. Jim will be laid to rest in Hope Lutheran Cemetery in Ossineke, Michigan in the Spring.
