James Dean "Jim" Deimerly was born August 7, 1961, the youngest child of James T and
Mabel Deimerly. Jim attended Eagle Grove Schools, then served in the U.S. Army. He later
attended Iowa Central Community College. Jim married Jill Knutson in 1987.
Jim was a man of many interests and talents. He was a successful motorcycle drag
racer, ultralight pilot, oil painter, photographer, wrestler, guitar player, bowler, and golfer.
When not working to perfect his skills at one of these, he could be found doing home, car and
other repairs and maintenance for family and friends.
Jim passed away June 25, 2023 at the University of Iowa Hospital with his loving wife
and daughters at his side.
Left to treasure Jim's memory are his beloved wife, Jill; daughters: Holly (Matthew) Brown
and Caitlyn Deimerly; stepchildren: Jaci (Dan) Griffin and Joel (Amanda) Bennett; 6
grandchildren; sisters: Jane (Geno) Solis and Jan (Larry) Eamer; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; and sisters: Cari and Joyce Deimerly.
Jim treasured his family and friendships and was a kind and generous friend to many. Jim
didn't fit into a mold, he was unabashedly himself. He couldn't and wouldn't pretend to be
someone he wasn't. He loved classic rock, not just because it was the music of his youth, but
because he could hear and appreciate hearing a skilled guitar riff. He was seldom seen
without a Mountain Dew in his hand. Jim lived life fully and well with endless curiosity and
love for others, and the world was a brighter place because he lived.
A Visitation will be held on Friday June 30th, 2023, from 3:00-5:00p.m., at Foust Funeral
home in Eagle Grove.
The family would like to invite everyone to the Smoke Shop in Eagle Grove following the
visitation for a time of sharing and celebrating Jim's life.
