James E. "Jim" DeVaney, 78, of Amarillo, Texas passed away suddenly on December 12, 2022. Jim was born on February 4, 1944, in Elwood, Indiana to Glendell and Bernadine (Fawcett) DeVaney after which the family moved to New Mexico where he grew up. After serving in the US Army, Jim returned to New Mexico where he got married and his three children were born. He worked for Southwestern Bell in New Mexico until he transferred to Amarillo, Texas. Jim retired after a long career as a cable splicer with Southwestern Bell and enjoyed his retirement, during which he opened a small business to fill some of his time. He enjoyed visiting and drinking coffee with family and friends, hunting, fishing, and tinkering with his rat rod. When he wasn't busy with his hobbies he loved spending time with the love of his life, Rose, vacationing, gambling, and giving her a hard time.
Jim was preceded in death by his father Glendell and mother Bernadine DeVaney, brothers David "Dave" DeVaney, John DeVaney, Glendell Joe DeVaney, Ralph DeVaney, brother-in-law Chris Campbell, nephew David Wayne DeVaney, and granddaughter Christy Ann Breece.
Jim is survived by his wife Rose Bentley, daughter Liane and husband Mark Scaggs, son James "Jim Jim" DeVaney and wife Debi, son Leon DeVaney and wife DeAllen, daughter Kelli Bentley, son Sean Bentley and wife Teri. Sister Edith Campbell, and sisters-in-law Joyce (John) DeVaney, Louise (Dave) DeVaney, and Rayetta (Ralph) DeVaney. Grandchildren Stephen DeVaney and wife Hillary, Michael Murphy, Jessica DeVaney, Deon DeVaney, DeAnnette DeVaney, Donny Smith and A.J. Smith. Great grandchildren Treyton, Jayden, Nathanial, Odin, Ollie, and Moyra. Multiple cousins, nieces, nephews and other family members also will miss him dearly.
