James W. Devore, Sr.

September 20, 1936 – December 4, 2025

James W. Devore, Sr., 89, passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on September 20, 1936, James lived a long, full life rooted in hard work, service, and devotion to the people he cared for.

James was a proud graduate of Mount Vernon High School and continued his education at The Ohio State University. He later went on to serve his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps for three years-an experience that shaped his discipline, character, and deep sense of duty.

A lifelong entrepreneur, James owned and operated two beloved local businesses. He ran the Bon Air Restaurant for seven years before opening The Donut Hole at Livingston and Rhodes, which he owned for an incredible 50 years. The Donut Hole became a neighborhood staple, where James welcomed countless loyal customers who became friends. His warm presence, humor, and consistency made the shop a cherished gathering place for generations.

James is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Devore; his daughter Rachelle Nutter (Londell Nutter); his son James Devore, Jr. (Melissa Devore); grandchildren Jonathan Thomas (Leiah Thomas), McKenzie Thomas, Marcus Johnson, Michael Johnson (Luka McIntyre), Derek Devore, and Samuel Devore; and great-grandchildren Novalie Thomas and Hazel Thomas. His family was the pride of his life, and he cherished each moment he spent with them.

He is preceded in death by his sisters Norine Pflaum and Irene Thompson, and his brother Floyd Devore.

James will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his quick wit, his generosity, and the steady kindness he extended to everyone he met. His legacy lives on in his family, his community, and the many lives he touched.

May he rest in peace.
